Speaker bio: Cory Olsen – Design and Building Performance

Cory Olsen is an assistant professor of interior architecture at the University of Oregon in Eugene. The work ‘Mass Timber, Small Format’ is carried out with associate professor of interior architecture Linda Zimmer, also from UO. Their proposal identifies the opportunity of utilizing small-scale offcuts as furniture inputs from mass timber panel fabrication. Their prototypes additionally aim to take advantage of the CNC capabilities of factory panel cutting machinery as well as another advanced tooling such as Emmerson Lab’s KUKA robotic arm. Their reclaimed CLT prototype ‘Squall Stool’ has been featured in person at NYC’s Wanted Design exhibition as part of ICFF, and digitally via the USGBC’s Product Solution Showcase.
