Today we're doing a performance review on the brand new addition to Nike's Move To Zero basketball line - Nike Cosmic Unity 2.


Debuted last year, the Cosmic Unity basketball line has instantly joined last year's top list. Can the second generation repeat this success? Will find out soon.

MATERIALS


Nike Cosmic Unity upper features a well-built combination of textiles and widely-spaced mesh zones, which consists of at least 20% recycled materials.
The main textile construction is double-layered, offering excellent stability properties while maintaining a high level of comfort and flexibility. All this is completed by areas of mesh and synthetic materials on the sides. This improves the upper's overall rigidity and support, especially on the lateral side.
Most of the heel is covered by the heavily extended midsole rubber to allow for solid heel lockdown. And while the upper pay great attention to ensuring player's on-court control, comfort lovers will also be satisfied.




CUSHION


One of the most innovative cushioning systems on the market - Zoom Air Strobel, continues its successful run in the Nike Cosmic Unity 2. Compared to its predecessor, the full-length Zoom Air Strobel system has stayed the same and will meet the requirements of any play style or position.
A fairly low forefoot area maintains that explosive bounce sensation generated by the Zoom Air Strobel unit. However, a much thinner layer of foam underneath trades some of the comfort for better court feel. These aspects allow the forefoot effectively react to a player's on-court movements by having an explosive yet controlled platform.
The heel area, on the other hand, is boosted with a much thicker layer of phylon to create a bouncy and impact protection-heavy tooling down there. Therefore, it's perfect for athletic wing players or those whose game takes place under the basket.




TRACTION


Widely spaced multidirectional traction pattern ensures consistently stable and aggressive grip with the floor, after overcoming a short break-in process. For this reason, we recommend trying them out in a training environment, before doing real game speeds.
After a few hours of play, the outsole will reach its full potential, providing reliable stopping power and lateral control for sharp direction changes or quick stops to blow your defender.
Softer rubber compound offers more advantages on indoor courts. So those looking for a new pair of outdoor beaters, unfortunately, will have to skip this one.




FIT


A built-in torsional plate nicely wraps your underfoot, at the same time, uniting two individual sole units. While this type of design adds a solid amount of torsional rigidity, it also significantly improves Cosmic Unity 2's maneuverability.
During high-intensity moments, the decoupled midsole construction moves independently to precisely adapt to the position and motion of the foot. This allows a player to use a full range of shoe capabilities in any situation.
At first glance, the quite bulky silhouette of the Cosmic Unity 2, turns out to be reasonably lighter than the first generation. Thanks to the use of adaptive materials, the upper nicely form fits your foot straight out of the box. Whilst fairly cushioned internal lining provides a quite premium step-in comfort.
When it comes to sizing, a reasonably sleek toe area will best suit regular or narrow footers. For these players, we do recommend going true to size. While for wide footers, it's a good idea to go a half size up.




SUPPORT


The Nike Cosmic Unity 2 stands out for its trustworthy support, especially on the lateral side. The upper receives some heavy stitching that not only adds extra visual points but also contains it from stretching laterally. Meanwhile, a highly extended midsole line, in tandem with a massive rubber swoosh logo provides the foot with stable lockdown onto a footbed.
The heel area is powered by two heel counters: internal and external. Combined with a heel mold that mimics the natural curves of your heel, slippage or any other unwanted heel movements won't be an issue, once the laces are tightened.




VERDICT


Continuing the line's successful run - the Nike Cosmic Unity 2 takes the spot on this year's top performers list. A premium price tag allows the second generation to match all the qualities of the main signature lines from the Nike family, such as KD or Kyrie.
So if you're currently looking to update your current rotation, while contributing to a good cause of helping our planet - the Nike Comic Unity 2 is definitely worth your attention.
