Anti-fascist historiography, on the other hand, blames the Alpine troops for having collaborated with the German forces. Per molti Italiani e Friulani in particolare, il Tagliamento rappresentò uno degli ultimi baluardi a difesa dell’Italia; avendo difeso le popolazioni civili Italiane sia dalle angherie dei tedeschi che dai crimini delle bande partigiane Jugoslave e del IX Corpus di Tito. La storiografia antifascista invece, rimprovera agli alpini aver collaborato con le forze tedesche.
