So far in 2024, Tesla has deployed around 5,000 Supercharger stalls. This is a 19% decrease compared to the 6,200 stalls deployed during the same period in 2023.

Earlier this year, Tesla CEO Elon Musk fired the entire charging team. This move was a reaction to pushback against further layoffs. The decision led to a slowdown in Supercharger deployment, even though Tesla has started rehiring some of the fired employees.

Tesla's Supercharger network is now open to Ford and Rivian EV owners in North America. Additionally, Tesla has opened its charging stations to other EVs in markets with standardized connectors, like Europe. This increased demand comes at a time when Supercharger deployment is slowing.

The reduced deployment could affect current Tesla owners and new EV buyers' confidence in the network. Tesla had a record deployment during the second half of last year, making the comparison even starker.
