Sri Lanka thanks India for help amid financial crisis; Extends ‘profound gratitude’ to PM Modi

Sri Lankan foreign minister Ali Sabry during his bilateral meeting with external affairs minister S Jaishankar thanked Prime Minister Modi and his administration for extending a helping hand to the debt-ridden island nation as it battles its worst financial crisis. Jaishankar, currently in Colombo, assured his Lankan counterpart that India stands in solidarity with its neighbour amid difficult times. India has stood behind Sri Lanka and told International Monetary Fund (IMF) that it strongly supports the country's debt restructuring plan. Sri Lanka has sought a $2.9 billion loan from the global lender.
