TARAWA, Kiribati Cruise Ship Visit

The cruise ship MS Amadea made its historic first visit to Kiribati on February 18, 2023. The ship, which is owned by Amadea Shipping Company and operated under charter by the Germany-based Phoenix Reisen, carried 523 passengers and 302 crew. The ship arrived at the Port of Betio in South Tarawa and was welcomed by traditional Kiribati dancers and musicians. The passengers also had the opportunity to explore the island and learn about its unique culture and history. The visit of the MS Amadea is a significant milestone for Kiribati's tourism industry. It is the first time that a cruise ship has visited the country since its borders reopened in 2022. The visit is expected to boost tourism and economic activity in Kiribati.
