Gutedel ist an ancient grape variety, today most popular in Germany, especially the wine region of Baden, and in Switzerland, where it is called Chasselas. It is know in those regions since the 1700s and 1600s respectively.

Gutedel is though to origin from Burgundy, or at least somewhere around the triangle Burgundy, South Tyrol, and Switzerland. Some researchers even believed that is goes back to Egypt but that theory has been defied by genetical analysis by now.

It is a fairly easy wine, however quality winemakers bring out its terroir pretty nicely. Often pale greenish in color, with strong peach aromas in the nose, generally fruity, fresh, and a tough of sweet aromas. However the wine is most often dry, acidic, spritzig, refreshing, with a light body and fairly light alcohol. Kind of a perfect summer refreshment.
