Dendrobates are pretty little bright-coloured frogs. Their colouring is actually a defence mechanism. Over time, these frogs have developed a resistance to the toxicity of certain insects. They can eat them and become poisonous themselves. Their sharply contrasting colours warn predators about their toxicity in order to put them off! This phenomenon is called “aposematism.” Others animals also use this strategy. It is thought that the first toxic species of Dendrobates appeared some 30 million years ago. These frogs belong to the amphibian family. Their oldest fossils date back 300 million years, in other words, before the first dinosaurs! You’ll be able to admire these tiny frogs in the Tropical Rainforest of the Biodôme as soon as it reopens on August 31, 2020! ****** Pour plus de renseignements // For more informations : ➡️ Web http://espacepourlavie.ca/ ➡️ Facebook http://www.facebook.com/Espacepourlavie ➡️ Instagram http://www.instagram.com/espacepourlavie/ ➡️ Twitter http://www.twitter.com/espacepourlavie ➡️ Youtube
