Nearly 80 Killed in Terror Attack in Eastern DR Congo | Firstpost Africa
A terror attack has shaken DR Congo which is already grappling with escalating violence. At least 80 people have died in a week-long attack in the eastern part of the African nation. Attacks that began last week on Tuesday, escalated on Friday. Armed men used guns and machetes to attack residents of villages in Beni territory, in the North Kivu province. Officials say last week’s killings were carried out by the allied democratic forces which is an affiliate of the Islamic State. The recent attacks have further exacerbated the country’s security situation which already faces mounting pressure from a host of active militant groups.
