I had a mentor session with an alumni recently that had a problem when handling DATETIME and TIMESTAMP columns in their MySQL database. They had no problem in development because their tests had their timezone match that of the server and database. They found in production, however, things didn't get matched up and their inserted times were being read incorrectly. This solution fixed everything for them! Hopefully it helps someone else out there, as well. :)
