Some of the factors you have to consider while choosing the dates are
1. What is your current situation
1. Are you fresh graduate
2. are you in your junior year i.e. 3rd year
3. Or are you working
The reason why I am emphasising these three topics is because if you are in 3rd year you have the time for summer vacation of 2-3 months where you can easily prepare even if you are working or not. If you working no intern has to work all the time at the office and that is the best time when you can prepare for the test
If you are a fresh graduate you might want to take a small pause before you go for work. With the small pause i mean like if you are graduated in may then you can wait until end of july to join any company. Moreover a lot of companies send out the offer letters later than expected which means that you will have time to study.
Why I am emphasising on taking the gap is because once you start your work it will get more and more difficult to find time for GRE. And taking GRE twice all I have come to is that a consistency is needed while preparing. Even if not for the maths part you need consistency for verbal. Because there is so many new words that you wont remember them if you stop in middle and then continue afterwards.
If you are a job, I don’t know much about that area. But one of my friend took his exam while he was still in college and applied when he started working. That way he had his score ready when he needed it. Since the GRE score is valid for upto 5 years. That means even if you took the test in 2012 the score will be valid today. So thats one good thing.
2. You need to have a backup option if you mess up one test
This means that if you are taking test in December and you score less than what you need to get into your ambitious universities, then you will need to take the exam again. And trust me on this it is always better to take the exam again rather than compromising with a university. Because there was 8 marks difference between the two test i took. And I am glad that I studied for a month and took the exam again. This way while i was applying to unis I was pretty confident in getting in.
3. Some of the universities and scholarships have deadline of late November.
A lot of universities offer scholaships and lot of unis have deadline of mid december or late november.
I missed applying to GATech cause I took my toefl on 9th of december and could’t finish the applying procedure that early. My toefl score were also not officially out so that was the case.
So to conclude this video I would like to tell that the best time is to start right now so that you can be take it late aug or early september so that even if you mess up one time you will have time to be take it again by the end of october and apply in november.
Moreover if you are watching this video very late dont worry. I know some of my friends took GRE in january and they did make it to some unis. So yea thats all for now
