The world last surviving 19th century steam powered weaving mill. The name of this mill is Queen Street Textile Mill
It was built in 1894 for the Queen Street Manufacturing Company.
Coal fired boilers supply steam to a 500 horsepower horizontal engine, which in turn drives  of 308 looms via belts and shafting. Originally the mill contained over a 1000 looms which employed thousands of people until the mid 1960's.
By early 1982 the mill was only operating 440 looms and was no longer financially viable. It finally closed on 12 March 1982. In the 1990s ownership passed to Lancashire Museums. After that this mill use as a  textile museum and people often visit here to see world only surviving steam powered weaving mill.
