Watch as Dr. Yaroslav Gofnung, a UCLA Health endocrinologist, explains the parathyroid hormone.

Parathyroid glands, nestled near your thyroid, produce parathyroid hormone (PTH). This hormone is a calcium regulator, so it plays a pivotal role in maintaining balanced blood calcium levels.

PTH helps raise blood calcium levels by prompting bones to release calcium, enhancing calcium absorption from food, and lowering calcium loss through urine. When there’s a parathyroid hormone imbalance, like hyperparathyroidism, it can cause health issues.

If you're concerned about your parathyroid hormone levels or related symptoms, talk to your doctor for more personalized guidance. Learn more about the endocrinology services at UCLA Health: https://www.uclahealth.org/medical-se...
