56. Combination FET and BJT Circuit (BIFET)

Multistage amplifiers made up exclusively of bipolar transistors or exclusively of field effect transistors only are not always the best choice for circuits. Multistage BJT amps gobble power and multistage FET amps have low amplification. However, by using a JFET in one stage and a BJT in the next one gives a high impedance and improves gain significantly at the expense of a little more power use. This circuit is called a BIFET amplifier. This video analyzes a BIFET amp and tests the results in a bread boarded circuit.
