16-year-old Dylan Brown shares the challenges and burden he has been forced to carry as a result of institutionalized racism. He discusses how society should reshape commonly held misconceptions about what it means to be young, black, and male in the United States.

Dylan Brown is a proud 16-year-old San Francisco Bay-Area native. He has been empowered to speak up about the effects of racism on not only his own life, but also the effects it has on countless black youth around the country.

"I want my story to be heard, to not only resonate with my audience, but to call them to re-examine the role racial bias plays in their life. I want them to walk away with an understanding of what it is like to live in a society that will define who you are and judge what you say before you have even spoken one word."

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
