Fix Adobe Acrobat Reader DC "the operation failed because Adobe Acrobat encountered unknown error"

When trying to add text to fill in the fields in a form you may get this error message, "the operation failed because Adobe Acrobat encountered an unknown error".  Google searches reveal many people reporting this problem for years without a good fix from Adobe.  There are a few fixes that have worked for some people but no magic bullet.  This fix worked for my client this time.  
I think this situation probably occurs because of the computer used to create the PDF document in the first place has fonts or a printer driver that is not compatible with your computer.
In my client's office there was one computer that was able to add text to the original document and two computers that got this error message.
