Main Event Mafia TNA iMPACT Debut 2008
Back in 2008 when TNA had a roster full of main event legends, a brand new alliance comprising of Kurt Angle, Sting, Kevin Nash, Scott Steiner and Booker T was formed.
What was so special about this faction was that each and every member had to be a former world heavyweight champion in order to be considered.
The stable was entirely HEEL during their original run and there motivation was to get "respect" from the disrespectful rookies of TNA's locker room. The faction was loosely based on the film "The Godfather" with Kurt Angle resuming the role as the don and occasionally be referred to as "the Godfather". Steiner was also occasionally referred to as the "hitman"
This era is regarded by many as the golden era in TNA wrestling, back before Hogan and Bischoff arrived and messed things up. The main event mafia were also a ratings success during their year long run in the main event of TNA.
The short lived re-incarnation in 2013 of the main event mafia featured two of the original members (Sting and Angle) as well as Samoa Joe. This version was a face team and also included Rampage Jackson, who is a former UFC world champion and Lastly Magnus, who had never won a world championship, thus breaking the original MEM rule that all members had to be world chamions. Magnus has since gone on to win the world championship from AJ styles.
