A reflection of two visits to St. Joseph’s Catholic Club, properly named St. Joseph’s Sodality Club, which for many years was my regular port of call on a Sunday night, and on a Sunday afternoon for a pre-match pint if Leigh were playing at home. Sadly, it went the way of many other social clubs when the characteristic duck-quack alarm on the front door, signalling arrivals and departures, quacked for the final time as the last paying customers departed during the early hours of New Year’s Day, 2012, and the club closed. Featuring, amongst others, Frank Turner; Brod, Harold & Alan Thorpe; Ruth Berry; Joan Molyneux/Donlan; Jack Woodward; Peter Butterworth; Granville Reynolds; Teddy Keeley; Viv Salt; Ken West; Tommy Glackin; Alf Case; Maurice Maloney, as well as my mates Dave Turner, John Hall and Jackie Forster/Walker.
