Four Backstops to the Four Percent Rule

Many early retirees and many in the FIRE community subscribe to the 4 percent rule for determining a safe withdrawal rate in retirement. Lately, there's been some concern that perhaps 4 percent is too high.

There are natural backstops to the 4 percent rule. It's time to bring those into the conversation.
