During the cherry blossom viewing season, reservations must be made in advance through the website.
The Hanami season for 2022 is from March 7 to April 10.

If you have an Annual Passport at the start of the Hanami season, you can enter the park without an advance reservation.
To purchase an Annual Passport during the Hanami season, an advance reservation is required.
Annual Passports are sold at the ticket office in Shinjuku Gyoen, and you must be there in person to have your photo printed on the passport.
I purchased the Annual Passport because I planned to visit several times.
