চেন্নাই থেকে ১৪৫ কিমি দূরে চার পাশে পাহাড় বেষ্টিত ছোট্ট শহর ভেলোর। এই শহরেই ১৯০০ সালে গড়ে তোলা হয় সিএমসি (ক্রিশ্চিয়ান মেডিকেল কলেজ) নামক হসপিটাল। যাকে কেন্দ্র করে এই অঞ্চলের মানুষের প্রাণ চাঞ্চল্য দেখা যায়। এশিয়ার বিভিন্ন দেশের মানুষ জীবন বাঁচাতে ছুটে আসে এই হাসপাতালে। এর পাশেই রয়েছে বিয়োগান্তক ঘটনার এক মহান নায়ক টিপু সুলতানের দুর্গ। যেখানে তার পরিবারের রক্তের দাগ লেগে আছে। ইংরেজরা এই বীরকে হত্যার পর তার পরিবারকে এই দুর্গে নিয়ে এসে বন্দি করে রাখে। পরবর্তীতে অনেককে এখানে হত্যা করা হয় বলে জানা যায়।
