England Women World Cup footballer, Lucy Bronze talks about the knee injuries in women's football that ruled Leah Williamson, Beth Mead and almost herself, out of the Women's World Cup 2023 and how the lack of research, care and welfare in women's sport shows how bad the gender gap still is in sport.
Her comments come after she was sidelined in the run up to this summer’s World Cup with a knee injury like many key England players. Currently female players are still suffering knee ligament injuries in worrying numbers and women appear to be four to six times more likely to suffer an ACL [anterior cruciate ligament] injury than male footballers and there is still little being done about this and how it’s linked to periods.
