American Enterprise Institute Senior Fellow Michael Rubin warns Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau seems to be “digging himself in the hole” with his accusations against India over the death of a Sikh leader.

On June 18, Hardeep Singh Nijjar was killed outside a Sikh temple in Surrey, a city southeast of Vancouver.

The relationship between India and Canada was then severely damaged in September when the Canadian Prime Minister accused India of being involved in the death of Nijjar during a speech in Parliament.

Mr Rubin said the United States allegedly shared intelligence with Canada about Nijar’s death after he had been killed, indicating the United States had no “smoking gun intelligence” prior to the murder.

He added that the smoking gun also supposedly came from the Canadian security services.

“There doesn't seem to be a smoking gun – things are open to interpretation.”
