Stearns Stories is back! This week, we are talking with Doug Thompson, curator of the Minnesota Military Museum, located at Camp Ripley. In keeping with our commemoration of WWII, Doug will talk about the 99th Infantry Battalion, a group of 1,001 soldiers formed at Camp Ripley in 1942. The 99th was comprised of Norwegian nationals and children of Norwegian immigrants in America, with goals of liberating Norway. Though they didn't get that chance, their story is a fascinating one!
