The patient is brought into the bay by the LifeFlight crew; as they enter the bay they announce the patient’s airway and hemodynamic status. A primary survey (check of the airway, breath sounds and presence of central pulse) is done prior to moving the patient off of the prehospital stretcher. The patient is unhooked and moved over; the move is controlled by the physician managing the airway. A primary survey is then repeated. This is done on every patient; this assures the placement and status of the airway prior to any moving. The resuscitation continues as the patient is placed on the monitoring systems and a manual BP is obtained. Please note the level of noise discipline; talking is kept at a minimum and each team member does assigned tasks. Upon obtaining a manual BP; plain xrays are initiated along with a simultaneous report. Note the report takes only 60-70 seconds. The resuscitation continues and two units of uncrossmatched O+ blood are started, a FAST exam is done and he is moved to the OR in under 6 minutes.
