Surfing Seger Beach Lombok: Close to Kuta, picks up swell, for beginner and intermediate Surfers

Seger beach is a 10 minute drive from Kuta Lombok. It picks up almost any swell and is certainly worth checking out before driving to surf spots further away from Kuta such as Mawi.

There are two breaks at Segar Beach; a beginner's left breaking off a large rock and to the right, a playful right (has a left on it too) that would appeal to intermediate and more advanced surfers. As the swells get bigger, tide is high, the right gets more shifty and currents can become an issue. The good news is Seger's picks up swell, breaks best on small to mid-sized days. The bad news is it can't handle bigger swells. My take is bigger swells usually occur during the dry season and if you got the skill to surf them, wouldn't it make sense to go surf Desert Point anyways?  The preferred tide at Seger's is mid to high and both the left and right tend to be better during rainy season. Watch out for sea urchins. As you will see in this video, it is still October, dry season conditions' and the wind is a bit of a factor as with most spots on the south coast of Lombok.

I suggest you do not depend on Google Maps to find Seger Beach because it will put you in a location where you cannot drive directly to the beach and are forced to walk a far distance including crossing over a sketchy bamboo bridge. The better option currently is to go south, past the roundabout (near the "west parking area" noted on goggle map). Once past the roundabout, stay left and look for a tiny, homemade "Seger Beach" sign. Follow that dirt road that runs parallel to the race track. The dirt road eventually veers right to the surf spot. Expect to be charged 10,000 Rupiahs for a road fee and another beach access fee when you park.  At least there wasn't a mob of children trying to sell wrist bands when we filmed.
