The wasp is parasitic. It is trying to paralyze the tarantula. The wasp will lay a single egg inside the spider's belly once it is paralyzed. When the egg hatches, the wasp larva will eat the spider from the inside out. The larva will avoid vital organs at first to keep the spider alive for as long as possible. This can take several weeks.
