Devī /ˈdeɪvi/ (Sanskrit: देवी) is the Sanskrit word for 'goddess. Devi is the supreme being in the Shakta tradition of Hinduism. Devi embodies the active energy and power of Deva, and they always appear together complementing each other. Examples of this are Parvati with Shiva in Shaivism, Saraswati with Brahma and Lakshmi with Vishnu. Devi rules the world, blesses devotees with riches, that she is the supreme deity to whom all worship is to be offered and that she infuses Ātman in every soul. Devi asserts that she is the creator of earth and heaven and resides there. Her creation of the sky as father and the seas as a mother is reflected as the 'Inner Supreme Self'. Her creations are not prompted by any higher being and she resides in all her creations. She is, states Devi, the eternal and infinite consciousness engulfing earth and heaven, and 'all forms of bliss and non-bliss, knowledge and ignorance.

About Sudha Ragunathan
Sudha Ragunathan is an Indian Carnatic vocalist, singer and composer. She was conferred the Kalaimamani award by the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1994, Padma Shri (2004) and Padma Bhushan (2015) by the Government of India. Sudha Ragunathan received her initial training in Carnatic music from her mother V. Choodamani. From the age of three, she began to learn bhajans, Hindu devotional songs. She is considered one of India's leading Carnatic performers. Besides the Carnatic repertoire, Sudha Raghunathan has also explored the world music scene, in particular fusion music. She has performed as a playback singer in the Tamil cinema as well. Sudha is known for her charitable works and had launched the 'Samudhaaya Foundation' in 1999 of which she is the Founder and Managing Trustee. The Foundation has assisted the underprivileged in the areas of child healthcare, infrastructural aid for homes and for heart surgeries for children.
