Comet Ison: NASA graphics show sungrazing trail

Comet Ison is expected to pass just about 621,000 miles (1 million km) from the sun's surface on November 28 and will be visible to the naked eye in December as it nears Earth. NASA scientists are not sure if the comet will survive as it reaches temperatures of 2,760 degrees upon arriving at the sun's surface. However should it continue on its course, the comet poses no threat to Earth.
Dr Michelle Thaller said: "Even if the comet does break up into many chunks, all those chunks will keep going by in about the same orbit. It's actually not going to get anywhere near us, so just enjoy it. Don't worry about it, this is a true gift from the cosmos." Report by Sarah Kerr.
