(27 Sep 2018) A Murasame-class destroyer of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) arrived in Manila on Thursday for a three-day goodwill visit.
Philippine Navy officials welcomed the Japanese Ship (JS) Akebono, which arrived with 200 officers and crew led by Captain Josuke Nakamura, the commander of JMSDF's Escort Division 5.
"We can deepen the bilateral relationship of our nations and strengthen the ties between our navies by conducting these events," said Captain Nakamura.
The event marks the sixth visit of the Japanese Navy in the Philippines this year, a sign of growing ties between the two countries.
