Fold it before trying this model!
[High-Intermediate] How to fold the full Magic Ball (designed by Yuri and Katrin Shumakov - www.oriland.com ) using my new easier method that uses no tape or glue.
In this tutorial I show how to fold it from a 4.25- inch X 11.5-inch rectangle which is simply half a sheet of letter-sized printer paper. It can also be folded from a US dollar bill (3X7 rectangle), but since it's a dollar, the extra tiny flap that results when making the grid has to be folded over rather than cut off, and the extra thickness make it extra challenging to lock the two ends together.
The Magic Ball and related designs were published in the book "Origami Magic Ball Wonders" available on Amazon: www.amazon.com/dp/1505835054 or the digital version: www.oriland.com/store/ebooks/main.php Upon purchasing this book I now see that it contains a method for folding the Magic Ball without tape (dating back to 1996!), but my method is different in at least two ways:
1. The folds in my method are made from a different angle which saves the folder from having to reverse dozens of creases
2. The final lock uses a one-unit overlap instead of two which is a little more efficient in its use of paper.
