In this talk Professor Ghassan Hage (University of Melbourne, Australia) highlights certain explicit and implicit analytical differentiations that he developed in his book "White Nation" (1998): the difference between tolerant and intolerant nationalism, homely and governmental, aristocratic and democratic belonging, cultures of ascendency and cultures of decline, entitled and non-entitled marginalisation. Hage reflects on the continued relevance of these differences for an understanding of White Nationalism as it has evolved in the west today.

The talk coincides with the publication this week of Hage's new book "The Racial Politics of Australian Multiculturalism" (2023), which includes Ghassan’s major works, "White Nation", "Against Paranoid Nationalism" and new unpublished material.

Hage's talk is organised by the Loughborough University Nationalism Network, in collaboration with the Leiden University Nationalism Network, the Nationalism Studies at Edinburgh University and the Nationalism Studies Program at the Central European University.
