How to Set Facebook Privacy Settings

At the Family Online Safety Institute, we often get asked for advice about how to check or update privacy settings in Facebook.
To edit or review your privacy settings, click on the lock in the upper right hand corner. Scroll down and click “Who can see my stuff?” In this tab, you can control if your posts are shared with friends or the public. You also have the option of further limiting post visibility based on around customized groups or individuals.
Here you can control who can contact you via messaging and friend requests.
If someone is bothering you or you no longer want to interact with them on Facebook, you can block them by entering their name or email address.
For a more detailed view of your privacy settings, click the Privacy Checkup. In addition to showing you who can view your posts, it will also tell you which apps are using your information and which information on your profile is public. Facebook updates its privacy features frequently, so be vigilant and check your privacy settings often.
