Fusion welding is a process that uses heat to join or fuse two or more materials by heating them to the melting point. The process may or may not require the use of filler material. Fusion welding processes which do not require a filler metal are called autogenous welds. If the material of the filler is the same metal used for the parent material, then it is called a homogenous weld.
