Coily hair, known as type
Coily hair, known as type 4 hair, has a characteristic tight ‘z’ shaped curl pattern. This hair type can experience dryness because the tight coils make it difficult for the natural oils to travel down the hair shaft.

There are 4 steps to the Curlsmith method for coily hair, which are:
Step 1: Cleanse
Step 2: Condition
Step 3: Moisturize
Step 4: Styling
1. The first step is cleansing. Due to the dry nature of coily hair, a co-wash is great for this hair type. They contain a small amount of cleansing ingredients, to provide optimal moisture to your locks. Apply to the roots, and massage into the scalp, then work it down through the lengths and the ends.

2. The second step is conditioning your curly hair. This helps to lock in moisture, and assist with detangling. You don’t have to use a conditioner after a co-wash, but really dry and thirsty hair will benefit from a conditioner. Apply all over and work it through each section.

3. The third step is to moisturize. We do this through a leave-in conditioner, which adds hydration and primes the hair for styling. Work the leave-in conditioner into the hair, taking small segments of hair, not forgetting to go right up to the hairline.

4. The final step is styling. Work the hair all over, then work into small segments by running the hair through your hands, pulling the hair taught, then allowing the coil to bounce back on itself. Take your time to apply all over the hair to create a stronger hold and tighter definition to the coils.
