Why is Berlin so big
Why is Berlin so big and sprawling? Why do we have so many city halls in the city? Why are there so many different districts and why does each district has its own center? Where does the self-government of the districts come from?
Berlin is by far the largest German city in terms of population and area. Yet just over 100 years ago, Berlin was much smaller, surrounded by a multitude of cities and towns. This was only changed by a law.
This video is about the creation of Greater Berlin in 1920. What circumstances were necessary, what resistance there was to overcome, who it was mainly thanks to that the creation of a unified municipality succeeded, which made Berlin at that time one of the largest cities in the world and a world metropolis.
