Why is RICKON STARK such an IMPORTANT CHARACTER in the books

Rickon's significance in the A Song of Ice and Fire series often goes unnoticed, creating a sense of mystery around his role in the story. The Game of Thrones show, unfortunately, failed to grasp this, resulting in a baffling and unsatisfying exit for Rickon. However, in 'The Winds of Winter,' it's likely that Rickon will take centre stage, leaving readers curious about the importance of his role. The question then remains: why is Rickon such a crucial character, and what makes his storyline worth caring about?
