***By "high voltage RAM" I mean normal voltage DDR3 RAM, which is at 1.5Volts, while low voltage "DDR3L" laptop RAM uses 1.35Volts.
If the laptop supports low voltage RAM, then you can use either DDR3L at 1.35V, DDR3 at 1.5V or DDR3 + DDR3L both at 1.5V. Using higher voltage RAM will increase the power consumption slightly, but nothing to worry about, as memory modules usually require 1-2 Watts, so increasing consumption by 10% is still just 1-2Watts.
