A ghost forest near Copalis Beach, Washington is evidence of the power of the Cascadia Subduction Zone. Ghost forests are areas of dead trees that have been invaded by saltwater, and the one at Copalis Beach was created in 1700, which was the last time the Cascadia Subduction Zone went off. The earthquake caused the land to drop between six and eight feet, turning the area into a salt marsh and killing the trees. There are also ghost forests in Oregon and Alaska caused by violent earthquakes.
