There is a nod to a part of African culture that shows how the movie’s villain is extremely misguided and warped. When we first see Killmonger’s bare chest during his battle for the throne against T-Challa, we see markings on his body for each kill he has had as a soldier. This is actually something from African culture called scarification, which people will do to mark off various milestones in their life. This shows how Killmonger is using the concept as a connection to his ancestry and culture, but in a way that suits his persona and his anger from the life he was dealt.
