Single-Leg Drill, also known as One-Leg Drill, helps develop pedaling efficiency and increases cycling strength.

Start by picturing your pedal stroke as a box-shape rather than a circle. Push your foot over the top of the box, push down, pull straight back, and then lift up to start the sequence again. You can also think of this as smoothly moving your pedal forward, down, back, and up.   This approach can eliminate any dead spots in your pedal stroke and will help you maintain force throughout the entire motion.

When doing Single Leg Drill Repetitions keep your cadence lower than the point at which your stroke breaks down and you hit “dead spots.” Start with short repetitions of 30 seconds in an easier gear and over time, increase your gearing and duration to 2-5 minutes with each leg.
