In this lesson Chad provides a thorough lesson on sound intensity level (a.k.a. decibel level).  He shows the logarithmic relationship between the sound intensity level and the sound intensity and then reveals how a basic understanding of logs can greatly simplify understanding the decibel scale.  He also introduces the threshold of human hearing which is equal to 1x10^-12W/m^2.

Next, Chad shows, given the sound intensity level, how to solve for the sound intensity under the log.  He then introduces the relationship between intensity, power, and the surface area of a sphere over which the power of the sound is spread out (I=P/A).  It is shown how the intensity at a given distance is proportional to the power emitted by the source of sound, and that the sound intensity is inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the sound source.  He concludes the lesson by solving a problem involving how the sound intensity level decreases with increasing distance from the source of sound.
