Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shahjahan Sheikh, who is on the run after Enforcement Directorate officials were attacked near his house, said he has "never been associated with any crime".
In an audio clip released on Saturday after the ED issued a lookout circular against him, Shahjahan Sheikh addressed his supporters and said, "Death is inevitable, but I have never been associated with any crime. If anyone can prove that I have done anything wrong, I will kill myself and not show my face. I never support crime. I hope you don't lose faith in me." His statement comes a day after the ED alleged that its officials were attacked by a mob of nearly a thousand people while they were on their way to conduct raids on Sheikh's residence in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas.
