Sonic 3 & Knuckles Part 12: Sky Sanctuary Zone & Hyper Knuckles Ending

Knuckles returns to his sanctuary,
Knuckles returns to his sanctuary, or at least, what's left of it. Angel Island is wobbling and shifting in the background, and as time moves on, it's slowly falling. Egg Robo finally appears again, with a clamp. No matter what you do, you can't escape it, so you might as well accept.
So Egg Robo takes Knuckles away, only to be stopped by Mecha Sonic, who was last seen fighting the real Sonic and left to fall withing their crumbling arena. Mecha Sonic tries to kill Knuckles, but Knuckles glides out in enough time. Because of this, the Egg Robo that stalked Knuckles the whole time was now finally destroyed. But now Knuckles has to fight Mecha Sonic.
Mecha Sonic uses the same moves that he did against Sonic. If you remember them, you should be able to beat him easily.
When Mecha Sonic is defeated this time, he just shuts down for a bit, then reactivates and heads for the Master Emerald he stole! He then stands on the Emerald and uses its power to transform into the golden Super Mecha Sonic. This makes him invincible, lets him fly. and gives him an energy ball attack.
Fortunately for Knuckles, this change is temporary, and turns SMS back to normal after he uses his energy balls. At that point, you can only hit him while he's not spinning or charging with the Master Emerald. After 6 hits, Super Metal Sonic floats much more slowly, and can only attack with deadly rings. When he changes back, he'll fall for a bit before transforming again and floating back up.
When you manage to beat him from there, he'll collapse to the ground and explode once and for all, while also taking the rest of the Sky Sanctuary with him.
Luckily, when it looked like Knuckles fell to his death, the real Sonic, making his first and only appearance in Knuckles' story, catches Knuckles, who is now Super/Hyper Knuckles and has the Master Emerald in his grasp. They quickly hurry the emerald back to Angel Island so it could continue its flight upward.
Near the end of the credits, the island flies up so high that it's on the edge of space. The "The End" portrait has Super/Hyper Knuckles posing in space. The background of the outer space seems to be the same one for Sonic's Doomsday Zone.
The after-credits screen once again has Sonic, Tails, & Knuckles aligned on the logo. This time, Knuckles is in the front & center. I see Sonic's thumbs up as a way of congratulating his new friend on his adventure.
At this point, all 3 of my playthrough of this game are now done. Anything else that I plan to add to my playlist of this game will be much more trivia, or involve Competition Mode. Until that happens, this playlist is conveniently just as large as my "Super Smash Bros. Brawl Intense Boss Battles" playlist.
The next Sonic game I'll put intense focus on will most likely be Sonic CD now. I plan for that playlist to mix up songs from both the Japanese & American soundtracks.
