Dan Erlewine is the best-known guitar tech in the world. His how-to videos have inspired and educated luthiers, techs, and guitar enthusiasts for decades. He also builds custom guitars for a few select clients.

Michael Tobias is a renowned luthier, best known for his important design contributions to the bass guitar. His first company was purchased by Gibson in 1990, and his current company, MTD, produces about 400 handmade instruments a year.

Phillip McKnight is the host of a very popular YouTube guitar channel. Though it is the least dumbed-down channel of its type, he somehow manages to make it interesting and accessible. Phillip used to build basses, but these days he sticks to gear reviews, working as a guitar tech, and winding his own line of pickups.

Tina Wood is a busy guitar tech working in the music mecca of Los Angeles. She originally studied in the UK before jumping the pond. She also produces an outstanding line of boutique guitars, “Woodcraft.”

Al Albert is the guitarist/ luthier behind Alethean Guitars, which focuses on modern, ergonomic designs. His instruments have a distinctive and unique look, no small feat in an industry where  imitation of traditional designs is the norm.
