Gather round while I tell you of nightmarish beings, helpful little gnomes, and all kinds of dangers lurking in the Scandinavian woods. In this video I talk about mythical creatures in Sweden!

There are many ancient beings in Sweden, things that people have talked about - and feared - for thousands of years. Some have been used to explain natural phenomenon, and some have been used to scare children into behaving properly. But all of them are fascinating in their own right.

In this video I discuss the following beings:
- The fierce Lindorm, a snake-like dragon creature that used to spend the winters in little-leaf linden trees.
- Tomte, that looks a bit like a miserable grey garden gnome, but is actually a helpful and kind spirit. Oh, and for some reason Sweden decided to combine the legend of the Tomte with Santa Claus....
- Näcken, an ancient fiddle-playing being that lures people to a watery grave. Oh, and he's typically nude these days...for reasons.
- The Skogsrå, or Huldra. A beautiful girl that you might encounter in the woods...if you're unlucky.
- Mara, the being that gives people nightmares. Not to be confused with the demons or goblins who traditionally gave people nightmares in the English-speaking world.
- And finally, I have to talk about trolls. They're famous all over Scandinavia, and they were made even more famous by the illustrator John Bauer.
