Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City December 21, 2023 “I look forward to more decades of the AFP’s excellent and selfless service to the nation, especially now that we are transforming our country into ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ that is rightfully due for our people,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos expressed as he led the 88th anniversary celebration of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City. The President made these remarks in commemoration of the decades-long service of the AFP, where he emphasized the crucial duty of the Armed Forces in keeping peace and security in place for the Filipino people amidst current challenges. “As you continue to play a vital role in the government’s various initiatives, it is my fervent hope that your institution will also remain relentless in countering lawless elements that intend to sow fear and distrust amongst our people,” President Marcos Jr. said. “You have become crucial as, in the past years, the Philippines has found itself in the middle of geopolitical developments and tensions that could potentially cause regional insecurity or endanger people’s lives and livelihoods,” he continued. The Commander-in-Chief urged the AFP to continue executing the task of upholding national security and to improve its readiness amidst emerging threats, as the Administration remains committed in its relentless pursuit to the military’s defense capabilities. “It is my hope that you and the rest of the military force will continue to uphold the AFP core values of honesty, service and patriotism in every endeavor… Let us explore and forge new partnerships based on common goals while also advancing our national interest,” President Marcos Jr. conveyed. Focusing on the theme, ‘AFP@88: Rising over the Challenges in the Service of the Nation', the 88th AFP anniversary celebration is aimed at showcasing the AFP’s progress towards becoming a world-class armed forces that is a source of national pride.
