यासमीन खान ईद-उल-जुहा से पहले दिल्ली के प्रसिद्ध मीना बाजार में दुकानों में गईं और तैयार कपड़े, जूते, आभूषण और प्रसिद्ध इस्लामी धार्मिक स्थानों की तस्वीरों की एक बहुत बड़ी रेंज देखकर बहुत खुश हुईं। पूरे देश में मुसलमानों द्वारा मनाए जाने वाले सबसे महत्वपूर्ण त्योहारों में से एक, ईद-उल-जुहा को शुभकामनाओं और उपहारों के आदान-प्रदान और भगवान से विशेष प्रार्थना की पेशकश द्वारा चिह्नित किया जाता है। बकरे या बकरी की बलि देने की परंपरा के कारण इसे बकरीद भी कहा जाता है। जैसा कि कहानी में कहा गया है, इब्राहिम, अल्लाह के एक वफादार पैगंबर को अपने बेटे इस्माइल की बलि देने का आदेश दिया गया था। उसकी आज्ञा मानकर उसने अपनी आंखों पर पट्टी बांध ली और इस्माइल को वेदी पर रख दिया। कार्य करने के बाद जैसे ही उसने अपनी आँखें खोलीं, उसने वेदी पर एक मेमने को मारा हुआ देखा, जबकि उसका बेटा उसके सामने खड़ा था। इस कार्यक्रम को अनुष्ठानों और उत्सवों द्वारा चिह्नित किया जाता है और इस्लामी मान्यताओं के अनुसार, लगभग 400 ग्राम सोने या उससे अधिक की संपत्ति रखने वाले प्रत्येक मुस्लिम को तीन दिवसीय त्योहार के दौरान एक बकरी या भेड़ की बलि देनी चाहिए। इस बलि के मांस को गरीबों में वितरित किया जाता है
Yasmeen Khan went around shops in Delhi’s famous Meena Bazaar before Eid-ul-Zuha and was delighted to find a very vast range of ready made clothes, footwear, jewellery and pictures of famous Islamic religious places. One of the most important festivals celebrated by Muslims all over the country, Eid-ul-Zuha is marked by the exchange of greetings and gifts and the offering of special prayers to God. It is also called Bakr-Id due to the tradition of sacrificing a goat or bakr. As the story goes Ibrahim, a faithful prophet of Allah, was commanded by him to sacrifice his son Ismail. Obeying Him, he blindfolded himself and put Ismail on the altar. As he opened his eyes after performing the act, he saw a lamb slain on the altar, while his son was standing in front of him. This event is marked by rituals and festivities and as per Islamic beliefs, every Muslim owning property worth about 400 g of gold or more should sacrifice a goat or sheep during the three-day-long festival. This sacrificial meat is then distributed among the poor.
