A scene from Japanese NHK's historical drama '坂の上の雲' (Saka no ue no kumo, Clouds over the Hill).

During the First Sino-Japanese War (中日甲午战争, 日清戦争)  (1894-1895)  a group of Japanese soldiers occupied a small village in China and forced its villagers to hand over all their foods, drinks, and etc. Moreover, a Japanese first sergeant proudly said
"This dirty and filthy street is the conqueror's road"
"It is a great pleasure that Chinese people treat us with utmost courtesy".
Seeing this, a Chinese old man strongly protested, but he was soon hit and thrust to the ground. A Japanese reporter tried to help the old man and his grandson, but he was pushed to the ground by the old man too.

Bursting with rage, the old man cried out.
"这孩子的父母都被你们给杀死了!"
(This boy's parents were all killed by you!)
"终有一天这孩子就报酬的!"
(Someday this boy will definitely have his vengeance on you!)

Hearing the old man crying out, the reporter asked the Japanese soldier about what exactly the old man said. The Japanese first sergeant, however, deceived him, saying that the old man just expressed his gratitude to them.
