During World War II, the Tuvan People's Republic, a small Soviet satellite state, contributed significantly to the Soviet war effort. In 1943, Tuva mustered a volunteer squadron of 208 horsemen to support the Soviet Red Army. These Tuvan volunteers were integrated into the 31st Guards Cavalry Regiment of the 8th Guards Cavalry Division. They participated in combat operations on the Eastern Front, including near Stalingrad and in Ukraine during 1944. Their bravery and contributions were notable, with many receiving awards for their courage
